Fresh Food Heaven

London's Farmers' Markets are a wonderful delight for your senses!

Whether you are staying in Kensington, Marylebone, Pimlicio, Chelsea or any of the many boroughs of London town, the local farmer's markets are thriving with offerings of fresh meats, fresher produce, and deliciously prepared foods.

Hot sautéed French Duck sandwiches, wild boar ravioli with freshly grated cheese and olive oil, these are just a sampling of the amazing foods at the local farmer’s markets in London.

Nina Thomson (who recently stayed in Ormonde Gate in Chelsea) was the happy food taster and her accounts of the markets are so enticing!

If ever there was a reason for staying in a flat its streaky bacon.  Especially the streaky bacon from Downland Pigs or Duck Lane Farm at the Pimlico Farmers Market on Saturday.  The atmosphere is friendly and intimate and the producers are eager to offer samples and recipes.  The market is technically the Pimlico Market but locals refer to the triangle as Orange Square or Mozart Square.  It’s a charming market under leafy large trees and surrounded by the posh antiquarian shops the area is noted for.  For those staying in flats in Pimlico, Belgravia, or Sloane Square this is your market!

Actually, for anyone staying near Sloane Square there are two markets to choose from!  Also stop by the Saturday market in Duke of York Square in front of Partridges.  There are lots of prepared foods and an interesting variety of sellers:  fresh oysters, salads & sprout balls, breads & pastries, cheeses & vegetarian risotto balls. So many unique foods!

If you are staying in Marylebone (Dorset Street) the newish market on the High St is really, really good.  This is a rather upmarket and matches the quality of the shops and restaurants of Marylebone High Street. It’s also open on Sunday’s which makes for a nice afternoon destination.  This street and market is described by many as the hidden wonder of the West End.

The market to end all markets is the Borough Market.  Take the tube to London Bridge and its right there.  This is Mecca for foodies.  The market runs Thursday through Sunday but be sure to go on Thursday or Friday.  The weekends are elbows to asses.  THIS is the place where you can sample the best of the best.

These markets make it so much more enticing to stay in a flat.  To be able to have divine pate’s, cheeses, fruits and sausages in the fridge is truly a luxury.  London is a paradise for food lovers and now getting the best of the best has never been more convenient.
